Going with the Flow
Unschooling and neurodivergent support for all
I'm Emily, I have been home educating my three daughters for a decade now and we have faced many ups and downs on our journey to where we are now. We take a semi-structured yet flexible unschooling approach to learning, allowing each of my daughters to follow their own pace, while adapting to their individual needs and skill levels. We embraced our home education journey due to my eldest having Leukaemia as a baby and when I looked into school for her there was no reassurance that they could meet her needs or keep her safe.
Subsequently my second, who is autistic, did not attend school either and neither has my third. I have a wealth of knowledge around supporting neurodivergent children within the home and in an education setting plus I am autistic and ADHD myself and know the challenges that can bring when both parenting and home educating children. In addition to this I have spent a decade also managing health professionals and advocating for my daughters whilst also home educating.
With a background in teaching, youth work, counselling, and currently training in therapeutic coaching for children and young people, I bring a wealth of experience to my role as a mentor. I've worked in a variety of settings, including with charities like the NSPCC, in prisons, PRUs, and with young offenders, which has further deepened my understanding of young people’s needs.
Alongside home educating my own children, I volunteer for Education Otherwise on their helpline, where I offer guidance to fellow home educators. I also have a strong grasp of the legal aspects of home education, local authorities, and report writing.
My work with teenagers and young adults is something I’m deeply passionate about, and I aim to support and empower others on their own home education journeys. I believe learning is a unique and personal experience, and I’m here to help you navigate it with confidence.

How I Can Help
Home Educating as a neurodivergent parent
Home educating as a neurodivergent parent can feel both deeply meaningful and quietly overwhelming. The sensory demands, the constant decision-making and the pressure to “do it right” can leave you exhausted and doubting yourself. You may long for a way of home educating that honours your needs as well as your child’s.
I am here to help you create calm, sustainable rhythms that reduce stress and prevent burnout. Together we will find practical, compassionate strategies that work with your strengths, support your challenges and allow your family life to feel more balanced and manageable.
Home Educating a neurodivergent child
Choosing to home educate your neurodivergent child often comes from a place of deep love and instinct. You know they need something different yet, once you begin, it can feel uncertain and draining. You may wonder how to engage them, how to meet their needs and how to hold everything together when emotions run high.
With thoughtful guidance and realistic tools, I will support you to understand your child more fully and to respond with confidence. Together we will reduce stress, build connection and create an approach to learning that nurtures both their wellbeing and your own.
Unschooling as your Home Education approach
Unschooling can sound freeing and hopeful - a way to step away from pressure and rediscover the joy of learning. Yet without clarity and reassurance, it can also feel uncertain and difficult to sustain. Questions, self-doubt and outside expectations can quickly cloud your confidence.
I offer steady, informed support to help you understand what unschooling truly means in practice, and how to shape it around your family’s values and needs. With the right insight and structure, you can move forward with calm assurance, trusting both the process and yourself.
